I have been reading so many blogs on depression treatment. Most of the information that is given is too complex I feel. Many places I also felt that the information related with depression is misleading.


Therefore, I decided to write this blog on 45 days self help depression treatment without medicine to make it very simple and easy for you to understand depression and its treatment.

  • Depression means you need to take antidepressants

These are the myths which are also not helping you to overcome depression. These myths only take you from mild depression to moderate depression to severe depression.


Now, I will tell you what depression is. My friend, depression is a mental condition in which an attack of 10000 negative thoughts daily is caused due to anxiety, stress and overthinking.


Depression is nothing but being stuck in the loop of anxiety, stress, overthinking and negative thoughts. I will reassure you that depression can be overcome without medicine. This statement is coming from a 25+ years experienced doctor, remember that.


Yes, it is possible to heal and cure depression. As depression is just a mental condition caused in the mind, removing the cause of depression from the mind is essential. Medicines cannot help reduce the symptoms of depression at all the 3 levels. You will learn this shortly in the section symptoms of depression. There is a full ecosystem when it comes to the medical system therefore, all those who are reading information on depression via wikipedia or google please do not get into any impression or assumption that you know it all.


There is a bombardment of information on the internet and hence you get so confused about what is right and what is wrong. Many people have come to me after they have gone through so many websites and blogs. When they came to me they said that they know everything about depression.


I can only empathise with you if you have read a few articles on depression and you have come to the conclusion that you know everything about depression. My friend, I know you have read so much about depression and that could be one of the potential reasons you are unable to overcome depression on your own.


See, when we read information we create our own assumptions based on how we have comprehended that information. Therefore, I want you to first of all relax and keep aside all your information about depression on one side. Now read this blog being unbiased just like a child.


I have divided symptoms of depression at 3 levels - body, mind and emotion. Yes, you will be able to observe various symptoms at body level, many symptoms at mind level and other symptoms at emotion level.


Until you do not work at these 3 levels it is not possible to overcome depression. Even if you are taking medicines or antidepressants you will not be able to come out of depression. Because antidepressants only work at your physical level and that too at a very limited area.


Plus antidepressants cannot be your permanent solution for depression because every antidepressant comes with negative side effects. So even if you feel good after taking antidepressants it does not mean you are out of depression. It’s a temporary effect of medicine and when that is gone you are back to square one.

My friend, what I am going to share with you now about the main cause of depression, no one is going to tell you that. I have arrived at this understanding after meeting 1000s of people who were in depression.


I have done personal counsellings with 1000s of people and helped them overcome depression on their own and that too without medicine. Therefore, my friend now read this blog with more attention.


The main cause of depression is your over expectations from yourself and from others. Yes, when you have too many expectations from yourself and if you do not meet those expectations, you will enter into anger mode.


The same thing happens when you have too many expectations from others and they do not meet your expectations, you get more angry with them. When this anger is suppressed or when you are unable to release your anger that causes depression.


Because of this lack of understanding related to expectation, most people are unable to come out of depression. I have met people who are in depression for 25 years. They have been taking antidepressants for 25 years. Now that antidepressant has become a kind of addiction.


This cannot be the solution for depression at all. Antidepressants will not help you to fulfil your expectations from yourself or others. It is a pure medicine which induces few chemicals in your body. These chemicals put your brain into a zombie mode. You feel sleepy and then you go to sleep.


No symptoms of depression can be reduced by entering into an artificially induced zombie state. The main cause of your depression is your own thinking pattern. Until you do not change your thinking pattern even if God comes to help you, I assure you that you will not come out of depression.

Remember my friend, if you hurt yourself then you won't be able to recover from that hurt. It is very difficult to come out of self hurt. So, yes it is good to think that you do not want to hurt others. But it does not mean you hurt yourself.


In depression, the self help method works wonderfully. Let us now see why it works.


Why self help works?


During my counselling session I use to give my depression patients various self paced exercises and activities. They were doing it on their own without anyone’s help or support. In every session they use to share the benefits of those exercises they did on their own.


So my friend, self help works because it activates your willingness. In most cases I have observed that instead of willingness most people are just wishing to come out of depression. Their willingness was not strong.


Many of the depressed patients asked me the shortcut to overcome depression. But you see friend, no shortcut can help you to get rid of depression. Many have asked me to prescribe some antidepressant but my friend, until you do not have the willingness to come out of depression it won’t help you.


Self help works because your willingness is strong. Hence, when they used to do those activities on their own, their self confidence automatically increased. In every session they felt better and better.


The core reason why self confidence used to increase is because when you get into self help mode your self esteem improves a lot. So my friend, now you understand why self help works?


I also used to tell my depression patients that you should prefer depression treatment without medicine. Now, let us explore this further.


Why should you prefer depression treatment without medicine?


For 25 years I have told all my patients to always prefer the treatment of depression without medicine. It is not that I have some bias with the pharma industry or with medicines at all.


Medicines are required and they have their own importance. However, when it comes to treatment for depression you have to learn something very important.


Medicines or antidepressants enter your body. They spread specific chemicals to your brain and all your cells. These chemicals may bring some kind of feel good or relief factor for the time being.


Once the impact of these chemicals are gone you will come back to the same state of suffering at mental and emotional level. You see, medicines are limited to catering only to the physical body.


Mind and emotions are directly connected with your own thoughts, imaginations and daydreaming. It is your own thinking pattern that impacts your mind and emotions. Medicine plays zero role in impacting your thinking pattern.


You cannot change your thinking pattern by eating some pill. That pill either will bring you to sleep or it will make you drowsy. Plus most of the medicines have their negative side effects. When it comes to antidepressants it has great side effects.


I know many depression patients who told me that they started antidepressants on their own just by reading some articles on the internet. It was very difficult for me to counsel them because they were so biased with the information they had stored in their mind just from the internet.


For them I had to take so many extra counselling sessions just to help them understand that the information they are holding will not help them to recover from depression. Every kind of information is available on the internet about depression. Does it mean that you believe all those things and go on experimenting with yourself?


Do not fall into this trap of reading online information. It is unending. It won’t help you to overcome depression at all. Plus taking antidepressants on your own to cure depression is the most dangerous action. Never take any antidepressants without consulting any health expert.


Also make sure you find such a health expert who will help you to overcome depression without medicine as the first preference.

If you are WILLING to overcome depression on your own, it takes a minimum of 30-45 days to overcome depression. If you are in mild depression, you can overcome it within 30 days, if you are in moderate depression, it takes a minimum of 45 days. If you are in severe or bipolar or clinical depression, it takes around 60-90 days to overcome depression.


I have observed that with cases where people are in clinical or severe depression too, with the right amount of sincerity and willingness to overcome depression, it takes 45 to 90 days. It extends beyond 90 days if you are not regular in your treatment routine.


After 25+ years of my practice I came to the conclusion that the self help method has worked with all of my depression patients. Their self esteem and confidence has grown during their treatment for depression.

Step 2 - Taking care of body


This step is all about your body. As I mentioned earlier that there are symptoms of depression at body level, these have to be eradicated. Hence, in step 2 you have to start taking care of your body.


You can create a short workout routine of 15-20 mins before breakfast. This will help you to release the lethargy of your body. Also any workout helps in improving blood circulation. This improvement helps in energising you. You feel refreshed and energetic.


During depression you feel a lot of inertia and lethargy. Hence, it is best to do some form of exercise or yoga or workout to release this lethargy.


Once you take care of your body it will be easy for you to move forward in your day. Let us see the next step now.




Step 3 - Protecting your mind


The third step is all about protecting your mind. If you do not protect your mind it will be more difficult for you to come out of depression. Why are many people in depression for 10+ years? One of the core reasons is that they entertain negative thoughts.


They do not protect their mind. They allow all kinds of negative thoughts in their mind. Then they feel sad and lonely. Well sadness and loneliness comes from negative thinking patterns. There are no medicines that can help you to change your thinking patterns.


Only you can change it. Therefore, I always give my patients specific affirmations that help reduce the symptoms of depression at mind level. In the afternoon, listen to positive affirmations for 10-15 mins.


Now, moving ahead with the next step.




Step 4 - Sleep and relaxation


The way we have handled our entire day we also have to handle night time. 3 steps were specifically designed in a way so that your full day can be taken care of. 70% of depression symptoms can be released during the day by following the above 3 steps.


In the 4th step you have to take care of your sleep and enter into relaxation mode. For this purpose, before you go to sleep, play music therapy. Relax your body and then lie down. Enter into a full relaxation state and enjoy music therapy.
