Parents have their expectations from children. When these expectations are not met they get disturbed. Same way, children have expectations from their parents and when parents do not fulfil these expectations children select any one option from the following:

  • revolt against parents

  • no communication

  • careless behaviour

  • leave parents

  • suppress and become meek

  • take extreme steps to quit life


None of the above options will help to reduce depression for sure. Coming out of depression due to marriage pressure needs a different approach altogether. That's why communicating with parents becomes important.


Parents cannot understand many things until you do not help them understand. They have grown up in a very different environment. Their belief systems, habits, thinking patterns and experiences are very different from yours.

You are also in fear and they are also in fear. Both enter into anger zone. This cannot bring any solution. The only way to come out of this pressure is to communicate. Yes, they may not listen to you. But it does not mean you stop communicating.


You have to find new ways of communication. You have to express yourself. You have to tell them about your life purpose, about how you want to live life. See, they have lived life in their way. They see that this is the only way to live. They have no experience about the life you want to live.


Hence, they wont understand in one go. You have to not just communicate but show them by living it. You have to also change your living patterns and thinking patterns. Your parents are treating you in a casual way because you have been so casual.


You have to drop your casual behaviour. You have to take responsibility of your life. Till now your parents were taking it in terms of your schooling, education, clothing, food, shelter and other needs.


But now you have to begin to take responsibility of your life. Think what you can contribute at home? Contribution is not only in terms of money but in terms of work and other support systems.


Let me caution you here, while you are in depression this kind of communication wont help anyone. Therefore, you must begin with way #1 and way #2 . When your mind and emotions are balanced, it is easy for you to communicate.
